Premium Bonds, explained

How lucky have your Premium Bonds been?

The luck score compares the prizes you recorded with the mathematical average for your eligible holdings. It answers “how did my prizes compare with expected winnings?” over the period you choose.

What does a score of 100 mean?

A score of 100 means recorded prizes equal expected winnings. A score of 150 means you recorded one and a half times the expected amount. A score of 0 means you recorded no prizes. The score is not a percentile or a ranking against other holders.

Luck score = 100 Ă— recorded prizes Ă· expected winnings

If expected winnings were ÂŁ100 and recorded prizes were ÂŁ150, the score would be 150. A score needs a positive expected amount.

Changing holdings need a monthly comparison

The tool calculates expected winnings for each month’s eligible balance, then adds those expectations before comparing them with total prizes. It does not average monthly scores. A month with £50,000 eligible should count for more than a month with £1,000 eligible.

Choose “Past draws” to use the actual prize fund and odds for each month, or “Same odds” to use one month throughout. Draw history is available for January 2025 – October 2026.

Zero and blank mean different things

Enter ÂŁ0 to confirm a month with no prize. Leave the field blank when you have not recorded that month. Your score appears once the winnings for every selected month have been entered. Missing months are never treated as ÂŁ0.

How unusual was your result?

Beside your score, you’ll see how likely a result like yours would be for your balance and period. If you won nothing, it shows the chance of no prizes. For other totals, it estimates the chance of winning that amount or less, or that amount or more. Results equal to your total are included. This helps put your winnings in context; it does not rank you against other savers. The calculation details explain how these estimates work.

Your past results do not predict the next draw

A lower score does not make a win due. A higher score does not improve future chances. The score describes the entered period, and small holdings can have a zero score without an unusual outcome.
